"Sport Climbing" - is one of America's fastest growing sports. It is a great confidence builder as well as an alternative form of exercise. Anyone can climb and it only takes minutes to learn. "Rappelling" - While climbing is going up the wall, Rappelling is going down. Another totally safe confidence builder, you will be hooked to a harness and a rappelling rope and will be able to lean back over the edge and walk down the wall. At all times a "belayer" will support you. After the first step, it's all downhill! BASICS "The Wall" Our wall is 40 feet high and has four sides. On two sides, you climb using your hands and feet on the rock holds mounted on the wall. One side you will climb a Jacob's ladder. The last side is for Rappelling. "Holds" A rainbow assortment of bright plastic pieces that will aid you in reaching the top. "Climber" The person climbing the wall "Rappeller" The person coming down the wall "Belayer" The Climber or Rappeller's safety and support person. For the Climber, the belayer will be on the ground and holds the safety rope for the Climber. When Rappelling, the belayer will be on the top of the wall. "Harness" This essential piece of Climbing and Rappelling equipment must be worn by the Climber, Rappeller, and Belayer. "Gri-Gri" The belay device used in most top roping climbs. Although designed to be an automatic locking device, it should not be taken for granted. "Caribiner" The "hook" in which a climber or rappeller attaches himself or his gear to the rope. Normally this is a locking device.
